Our History
The PCDWA began in the fall of 2011. Liz Kooy was at her first Hyer Preschool Association meeting when someone whispered to her that she knew two other democrats and invited Liz to have coffee with them. That coffee turned into a regular Friday coffee at Corner Bakery and the four began jokingly calling themselves the Hyer Democratic Women’s Association.
Soon after, we started meeting in people’s houses, and we renamed the group the Park Cities Democratic Women’s Association. As Self-Appointed President and an experienced community organizer, Liz continued to grow the group and began organizing speakers and candidates to come to monthly meetings. Since the 2016 election, our membership has grown exponentially. In the 2018 midterms, we were proud to be a part of the effort that flipped US Congressional district TX-32, State Senate district 16, and other races across North Texas. We will continue to be a driving force in 2020—electing progressive local, state, and national candidates.
A bit of press for the PCDWA from the New York Times…
